I was very excited to hear about the call for Assistant Curator at Creative Art Farm. I feel at this time in my career, the opportunity would be ideal for both my personal and professional development and for the team and the artists in residence at the organisation. My passion for art goes beyond simply my art practice. As a curator, coach and mentor as well as fine arts charity board member I feel truly fulfilled in my purpose of bringing joy and intellectual growth through creativity and culture. Spending an intensive period in close contact with art practitioners in Salcheto would, I’m assured be massively inspiring for both myself and those I would potentially work with.

As an artist I try and push my own boundaries as well as work in a way which seeks to remove the pomp and prestige of the art world which I feel is a massive hinderance to the enjoyment (and creation) of creative objects and initiatives for many. I instead focus on a responsive and inclusive way of looking at creativity which is positive, fun and refreshing for all parties. I attempt to achieve this through a holistic approach to creative thinking. Through mentoring, coaching and curating I want to help people realise that we are all creative. Not that we can all simply make art if encouraged but that all aspects of life can be enriched through creativity. I believe it is the trait that indeed actually makes us human. Bold, inspired innovation is what brings us to our true selves and a better future for all. As I mentioned in my statement, my work with the Society of Scottish Artists in our various cultural programs has given me the excellent chance to work with creatives of all ages and levels across Scotland. From awarding graduate prizes, leading our essay initiative, curating and facilitating museum standard exhibitions to aiding the creation and execution of a country-wide mentoring program and coordinating our recently started residency program at Moray School of Art, the chances I’ve had to make a real difference to artists and culture has been hugely rewarding. I now feel that working closely with creatives from a wide range of countries would be the next step in my process of living and giving inspiration, focus and drive to others.

I am also very excited to return to Italy for the first time in many years; a country which I have loved dearly since my early adulthood. I had the pleasure of working for an Italian wine importer during my Masters degree and have a passion for Italian wine and artisanal cuisine. A month spent making sculpture in the olive groves of Umbria back in 2019, during my residency there, was also a highlight of my artistic career so far.

My years of practical experience as an artist, art consultant and curator would also provide residents valuable advice and tips on moving beyond the studio, something which is often sorely missing for those just graduating from Art school. I look forward to speaking with you online soon, and sincerely hope you might find my presence on the program advantageous. If you require any other information do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best regards,

Greg Bryce.
